Title:  "Trains" Magazine, April 1949
Description:  Here is a photo taken by Mr. Mike Runey. It was published originally in the April 1949 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 31. Photo Caption: "Bound for the coalfields with a train of empty hoppers, a Pennsylvania I-1 comes waddling out of the Elmira (N.Y.) Yards. After picking up orders at Kendall Tower and crossing over the shallow waters of Seeley Creek, the capable Decapod will be on the single track main line of the Williamsport Division ~ an important link in the Pennsy's map that provides connections with other eastern carriers (like the Lehigh Valley) and furnishes nearby markets with Keystone State fuel. Most of the Division's tonnage is hauled by these I-1's or heavy M-1 Mountain types; often, both classes doublehead." The locomotive's road number and the date are not recorded.

Dark day for BUOI
Title:  Dark day for BUOI
Description:  While in Elmira that day, I also caught BUOI while waiting on SLN 5. It has only two units for its 85 cars, of which four are 12 wheel depressed center flats. Climbing up Gulf Summit will be a chore the crew is undoubtedly looking forward to in the gloom.

Pulling down
Title:  Pulling down
Description:  BUOI pulls its pick up out of the yard. As we look at the power going away, we see a lead going down to the street to what was once some industrial track, now long abandoned. In the distance past the power, first we see the light poles for the station, remaining long after the platforms were removed, and in the far distance, the red brick of the statioo building.

More typical transit
Title:  More typical transit
Description:  NYCTA was also having some R 42s rebuilt at Hornell. These went back and forth on OIBU and BUOI for the duration of the several year long program. Later, R 44 and 46 cars would also get rebuilt, and ply the rails of the Tier. This R 42 is on BUOI at Elmira, headed back to New York.
